Bobcat Basketball splits packed Homecoming

Women stun PBC No. 1 UNG

The GC women’s basketball team was able to take their first victory on Homecoming since the 2014-2015 season, defeating top-seeded University of North Georgia 84-82 in overtime.

The Bobcats ruled the paint, putting up 40 points down low to UNG’s 26.

Two Bobcats turned in double-doubles, with junior Erin Drynan posting 16 points and 15 rebounds, while fellow junior Shay Tarver had a career day, putting up a career-high 22 points and adding 10 assists for her first career double-double.

The Bobcats were able to pour in 44 points from their bench, doubling the 22 that UNG added.

Poor shooting dooms men

After jumping out to a 53-52 lead at the 3:02 mark in the second half, the GC men’s basketball team was unable to close the deal on Homecoming and eventually lost 66-59.

Junior forward Isaac Thomas turned in a 12-point-13-rebound double-double to lead the Bobcats.

Despite Thomas’ strong performance, GC shot 31.3 percent from the field and 2-17 from 3-point range.

UNG shot 47.1 percent from the field. After seeing their one-point lead slip away, GC was unable to close the gap, giving up back-to-back dunks, allowing UNG to go up by four points in the final minute.
